As some of you will know, I’ve slowed down on the Photo taking/Gigs in the last few weeks in the run to my my Wedding in July. But the bug is still very much there for me, and when I was asked to take photos of The Purple Project at their Newbury Corn Exchange Gig, I was honored! I’d taken pics of Lead Singer Paul Wrightson’s band Iron Heart 20 years ago at the Rivermead when I was still finishing college - and it was great to see how he’s become such a fantastic presence on stage. It was a brilliant night - and I’m sure everyone who was there went away with a big smile on their faces.

Also great was Black and White Music’s event at the Plug N Play on the Sunday night - a great mix of bands, all playing their hearts out but to the usual Reading apathy of a turnout. I really want to understand why no one can be bothered to out and support our local music scene - the tickets are priced fairly, the bands were awesome, the effort made by all was huge - except Reading’s “couch potato” music fans. Be careful you don’t lose your music scene completely through atrophy. Anyway - All Sunday’s bands blew me away - even if Alex from Hello Wembley was determined to scare what audience there was away..

So here’s all my favourite shots - with the rest at http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamreading

Catching up on last weeks gigs - The Vice to OK Tokyo

Posted in Uncategorized on May 14th, 2008 by adamreading

Pretty much as usual I’m putting gigs at the front of my to do list each week, and everything else seems to suffer as a result. However I went to two blinding Gigs last week. Black & White Music Promotion’s Wednesday night at Plug N play presenting The Vice and Underground Hereos with support from The Tricoteurs. And Sid of Club Velocity’s Saturday Night extravaganza also at Plug N Play with OK Tokyo Headlining and support from Bad Robots, Kicks and Sixty Watt Bayonets (who are so fab you’ll be singing along within minutes).

So here is my photographic evidence of a great couple of nights had by all.

Last Saturday night I spent wisely. I was intrigued by the offer of free cake, easily diverted as I am, and so was drawn in to the warm embrace of The Oakford Social Club once more. there’s been much debate recently as to whether The Oakford should loosen its musical belt and welcome more “punk/metal” bands onto its stage. I for one, an avid listener to Metal etc, wish the Oakford to change not one jot. Its always a pleasurable experience being there, the crowd is chilled and cool, the music excellent and the ambience perfect. Don’t fix what ain’t broken i say!

So here’s photographic evidence of a good night had by all. as usual the full photographs are available for your perusal (you may even be in one) at www.flickr.com/photos/adamreading

A new musical taste - dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip

Posted in 100% reading, 21 South Street, 40D, Canon 40D, Entertainment, Linda Serck, a poem in between people, band, bbc berkshire, berkshire, camera, cancer, canon, concert, dan le sac, flickr, gideon conn, gig, gigs, joshua idehen, le sac vs pip, live, marie curie, music, photography, producers with computers, scroobius pip on April 7th, 2008 by adamreading

Firstly, I had an unexpected but excellent evening at Basingstoke’s Light Lounge on Saturday night courtesy of Lozza from 100% Reading . Pics are up with the rest at www.flickr.com/photos/adamreading.

To be totally honest, I had only heard the name dan le sac and Scroobius Pip bandied around. It seems “Thou Shalt Always Kill” was in my sub-consious from last year too, though I hadn’t known who made it. When BBC Berkshire’s Linda Serck asked me to go shoot these guys, I was excited photographically, but unsure musically.

I have to say I am a total convert 100%! The whole night from Joshua Idehen’s inciteful “Cupid” (MC’ing the night and representing www.myspace.com/apoeminbetweenpeople with style and flair, to the bouncy and brilliant Producers With Computers - www.myspace.com/producerswithcomputers, the strangely lovable Gideon Conn - www.myspace.com/gideonconn eclectic but deceivingly innocent, and climaxing with these two who reminded me of “The odd couple”. www.myspace.com/lesacvspip will tell their tale better than I, but I was moved, shaken and definately stirred during this set. if you ever get the chance to catch them live (Try tonight at Oxford if you can) DO IT! dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip with the aid of a drunken prat who took to the stage with them to the amusement and tolerence of all, though we did laugh when he fell flat on his face off the stage. (I’d just put my camera away so I could get up there and escort him off before he destroyed the set and the evening, when he dived off himself).

Anyway, you can see how impressed I was by the very fact that this is probably my wordiest blog in ages!!

So, to the photos. Enjoy and as always, don’t forget to credit me if you use any.

Not my usual post - here’s a Poem my Dad wrote today…

Posted in cancer, dad, marie curie, poem on April 3rd, 2008 by adamreading

Wake Up!

A moment of madness

There when I wake up.

Feeling OK for a brief span, sublime.

Then it is flooding back,

Harshest reality.

My days are over; I’ve run out of time.

My body’s ruined,

My system attacked

By a ravaging cancer that’s spreading so fast.

Now I’m accepting

For me there’s no future

But day-to-day viewing the shades of the past.

How long I have left

There’s no way of knowing;

Each day is borrowed, a cumbersome debt.

The payback is coming,

The interest growing,

An onerous burden that’s not quite here yet.

For me it’s too early.

There’s so much to do.

But already the choices left to me are few.

No longer eating

Save liquid refreshment.

Too weak to exercise; too much to rue.

I weep for my loved ones

And sigh for my friends.

Leaving them all is just not what I’d planned.

I so regret parting

With my dearest Tracy

A lifetime of love slips away just like sand.

And yet I’m here now.

So how do I ration

The time that remains? How best to proceed?

Must earn, so I’m working;

Must sleep, so I’m dreaming;

Confusion is reigning; what else do I need?

I think of those others

Departed before me,

Diminishing lifespans just gone in a flash.

My parents, my sister,

Aunts, uncles and cousins

Are memories fading, their substance like ash.

My treatment is looming,

So life could be lengthened.

But what will the cost of extended time be?

Will I be a zombie

Or creased up in agony?

Should quality not be my priority?

Tonight my sweet daughter’s

Returning from India.

Tonight she’ll be told of her daddy’s demise.

Oh, how can we do this

To poor dear Charlie?

Her trip from the airport Hell in disguise.

My kids are my real strength.

Through them I’m handling

This nightmare scenario with realism and calm.

I am so proud of them

And they’re providing

A future of sorts, living on beyond harm.

My nurse from MacMillan

Has just been to see me,

A curious mixture of pathos and cheer.

I feel her pity,

It’s her great capacity,

Spreading it thinly with sugar and fear.

Next week, radiotherapy.

Then, maybe, chemo.

My internet’s buzzing with promise for pay.

Cat’s Claw and Mistletoe,

Shitake, Shark Fin,

A few hundred dollars will see you OK.

Yes, yes, I’m still standing

And yes, I’m still working.

My writing the proof of my presence - still here!

And sometimes forgetting,

Just lately ignoring

The fact of my passing, just trashing my fear.

My body is thinner,

My eyes are much larger,

Their home darker craters in a shadow of me.

My strong hands are failing,

I know that I’m ailing,

Yet tell myself nothing of what is to be.

Instinct takes over.

No self-preservation,

But deadly acceptance, a strange monstrous calm.

My soul’s insulation

A quiet intuition,

A knowing that I’m beyond all further harm.

Your turn will come one day.

Perhaps, if you’re lucky,

You’ll make the best use of what’s left of your time.

But if you should vanish

And leave without warning,

Here’s hoping you’ve already lived through your prime.

If you read this far, you’ll probably have realised he has terminal cancer, I’m trying to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. You can donate if you like here:

So firstly a big thanks to Linda Serck at BBC Berkshire/Reading Post for using my pics. It’s a huge buzz seeing them used at last!!

Here’s BBC Berkshire’s main home page during some of last week - with The Noyze featuring from the 100% Reading gig.

bbc270308

I had been looking forward to seeing the 6NS boys play again for ages, and they didn’t let me down.

6NS were on top form and the place was rammed to the gunnels, lots of familiar band faces out to support the scene as usual. Full Force Gales started with their first ever gig (as full force - you’ll recognise all the members as part of Heartware Process - lol.)

60 Watt Bayonets are definately Reading’s next big thing - they went down a storm, if you haven’t already heard their stuff - check it out - I was having trouble keeping still enough to shoot!

Six Nation State - if you aren’t a huge fan - WHY NOT!

Anyway the pics are below (although as always there’s tons more at www.flickr.com/photos/adamreading)

Lastly - I’m bugging everyone I know with my fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care, but here I am again asking - if you enjoy my blogs, pics, body, whatever then please make a small donation here:

Instructions on how to download my Gig Photos from Flickr at High Quality

Posted in download, download from flickr, flickr, flickr for dummies, instructions, photography on March 23rd, 2008 by adamreading

So, it’s come to my attention that although many of you are fantastic musicians, you don’t really like computers. I keep finding my photos on your myspace sites as tiny thumbnails or horribly jpegged right click copies - so I’ve promised a number of you to write a definative guide to how to download my pictures in all their high res glory, and here it is!

When I give you a link to your pictures, its normally the home page of my Flickr photo site - www.flickr.com/photos/adamreading and when you load that page it should look like this:

home

You now have 3 choices - if the pics are the latest ones I have taken, they may even be on the home page or next few following, but you can also look by Artist or by Venue clicking on the appropriate icon on the right. To demonstrate this, the next image shows what happens if you click on “Pics by Artist” (It would be similar by venue):

byartist

There will be an icon for each band (or venue) with the number of photos in that “set” displayed underneath. If I have been tidy, they will be in Alphabetical order to make it nice and easy to find the set you are looking for. Note that the same picture may be referenced in a number of sets at the same time - ie. Artist and Venue. Anyway, once you have identified your set, click on the icon and it will open like this:

setview

All of your pictures will be displayed as tiny thumbnails cropped into squares - this means that the picture will be very different when you open it from what you see in the square (my pictures aren’t usually square). So click on a picture that you like the look of and that will open the picture page:

picview

This is the main page for working with pictures in Flickr, here you will be able to see how many people have looked at your picture, get information about when it was taken and what camera settings/lenses etc I was using, if I used flash and so on. You can also use the thumbnails on the right to jump to the previous or next shot in your set if you want to move on easily. But for the purposes of downloading you just need to click on the “All Sizes” icon above the picture which looks like a magnifying glass with a + sign in it. This will open the final page you will need - the download page:

download

Ok so now its easy - pick one of the qualities - I suggest medium or above - to download, click on download - choose somewhere on your pc to save to and the pic is yours to enjoy, upload to myspace or whatever. You will see that my pictures carry a creative commons licence - this means you can use them for non-commercial use, as long as a) you credit me (either by Adam Ososki, or adamreading.com, or by using my banner from my myspace profile www.myspace.com/adamreading (just cut and paste the code there to your site)) and b) you can’t modify my pictures in any way - no changes at all please.

Anyway, I’m sorry if you have found any of this patronising but I find myself explaining this 2 or 3 times a week, so I hope you will find it useful - I spend about 15-20 hours of my free time every week trying to provide Reading bands with high quality pictures to use on their myspace profiles etc, so you can see why I want the best quality versions used!!

 Enjoy

 Lovin you all
